Schooling in Pretoria.
Qualifications:

MB BCH;
FCP with Pediatrics (S.A.); BA
Registered
as a nurse with the S.A Nursing Council in 1951: trained at the Johannesburg
General Hospital.

Registered
as medical practitioner (MB BCH) with S.A Medical & Dental Council
in 1966: trained at Witwatersrand University, Johannesburg.
Registered
as Pediatrician (FCP with Pediatrics, S.A.) in 1972 following the
required 4 year academic and hospital training required by the S.A.
College of Medicine.

B.A. degree,
with distinction in Psychology, from the University of South Africa,
1959. Studied by long distance learning over a period of years when
mostly bed bound because of arachnoiditis.

Completed
2 years' course work (part time study) for Master's degree in Neurodevelopmental
Pediatrics 1993. Commenced research for completion of the degree
but unable to complete because of ill health and subsequent move
to join my son in New Zealand.
Medical Practise Experience.

Medical
and surgical internship at Coronation Hospital, Edenvale,S.A.,1967.

Medical
officer in pediatric outpatient dept. Baragwanath Hospital.1968.
-
Medical
officer in pediatric wards, Baragwanath Hospital, 1969-1971.
-
Medical
officer at community clinic, Soweto. 1972.
-
Consultant
pediatrician in charge of one of the four pediatric units at Baragwanath
Hospital. 1973 - 1978.

Seconded
to Neurology dept. for further training in adult and child neurology,
Baragwanath Hospital. 1979 - 1982.
-
Early
retirement from hospital post because of ill health. Part time private
pediatric practise from home, and part time session work at schools
for cerebral palsy, developmental delay and learning disabilities,
and at a school for the deaf. 1983 - 1994. During this time - completed
BA degree, and 2 years of part time study for Master's (see above).

Moved
to New Zealand May 1995. Part time developmental pediatrician at a
Child Health Centre, until May 1997.

Since
September 1995 involved with local arachnoiditis support group; patron
of ASAMS since October 1997.
