Myelogram
Kills Otherwise Healthy man
The Denver Post reports, a
toxicology report indicates that a 73 year old man with back pain died
from an X-ray procedure called a myelogram. The injection contained an ionic contrast medium dye no longer approved
for use in the spine.
Despite the
red-lettered warning on the bottle of the dye stating that it should not
be injected into the spinal column, a hospital in Colorado injected it
into the unsuspecting patient.
Unfortunately,
this is not the only case where ionic dyes were misused this way.
Nineteen cases have been reported to the Food and Drug Administration of
which seven (7) patients died.
